T-90A Dissaster... though mostly my fault

well I lack experience but even so nothing like this has not happened to me before, and certainly I am sure that it cannot be totally my fault...
from this angle all seems mostly fine
Well what happened... warping and deforming on a grand scale. . :-( OK I think that perhaps the water I washed the kit in was to hot but the water must not have been much hotter than the water I used to clean my other kits, and they had no deforming, none what so ever. I am not put off Model Collect but I am going to be more cautious in future.
but on closer inspection things start to  go wrong
I do take responsibility for the water and I do know that this is mostly my fault, but even though that is the case, this is the same process I have used before with no problems, so perhaps I can ask to buy a replacement at a reduced price. Though even this might be a hard ask. I have never faced a situation like this and I am totally confused.

this part has suffered the worst... I have tried my best to correct the problems but the problems go beyond bending, the plastic itself has got weaker in some places

heat can do this but it was
now there is far more damage that this because all the spures also bent... once again this has never happened to me before. I have no chance of righting these wrongs because when I do, even by heating up the plastic again the plastic starts to come apart!
this is the most bizarre of the damage, I have managed to straighten out the tracks as much as possible but no joy. I know that tracks must be washed with care but again no problems in the past
Well I have no clue what to do, but this is a slight warning if you get this kit watch out for the water temperature. I am going to try and sort this out myself but still some support/advice for what to do in future would be really appreciated.

well I hope you all have a better time than I have, Well perhaps the sand to mud charity run will take my mind off it, that's tomorrow I hope that I can give you some good news then.

  1. My mate used to buy resin kits and have to put them in hot water to bend them back in to shape, I don't know whether you can put this back (because it's plastic) in to warm water and try to re-shape it but I don't know!

    1. I am afraid trying that made the plastic break. :-( I think I may have got some made uot of bad plastic. I don't think other kits are like mine judging from the responses of other people, I may have got one out of a bad batch that was not discovered.

  2. That's a shame. I would have to advise something like what Lee said. Try gradually warmer water and see what comes of it.
The tracks are crazy though, maybe an iron could help?
Also try emailing the company and describe what happened and they may replace it for you.

    1. thanks Ben. I did email them actually and I just got a response that they will replace the kits for me. as you can imagine its the happiest possible end to this scenario.

  3. A bad batch, different plastic, ... You may ask the company for another, but I don't think they will accept your claim.

You may have to build a... wreck! Which, for us "beginners" is not an objective, but experienced modellers do all the time!

    1. they did amazingly, perhaps because they are a small company they don't want people to go around saying there are serious problems with it.

      next time much cooler water

  4. It looks as though the company came to the party - not a thinkg that happens often enough these days. I am a little puzzled, though. Is this a fairly soft plastic or something? I have never in my life washed the sprues of a modelling kit. I don't really know why you would.

I do wash plastic figures. Sometimes. I gather you really do need to with the kind of soft plastic HaT favours, but eben then I rarely bother. I've never had much problem painting that is supposed to happen if you don't wash in warm water and detergent. Maybe I just hold my mouth in the right way...

    1. well I have learnt a lesson that I'll never forget, I hope. I'll be much more careful. we'll just have to wait and see.

  5. Wow. Seems the plastic is really heat sensitive. I messed up the lower hull of a kit from one of those Ukrainian manufacturers with a heat gun, but it didn't look nearly as bad as what happened to your kit. I think ModelCollect needs to revisit their choice of plastic.

    1. thanks, it is odd that it should go so wrong but I am lucky they are willing to replace it, I imagine other companies would not do that.
