I'm still here... a Ruin and a grand overview of Oronegro

Well first things first I am appologizing for not being active recently. I have been up to my eyeballs with work and as soon as I clear just a little, my sister leaves minecraft on the computer and it just draws me in like a fly to a light... so yes clearly I have problems to sort out there but during this time I have got some work done.

Well I guess another thing to say is that if you were expecting a nice small post with a few pics I am sorry but this may just ruin your day. 17 pictures and a lot to say, so lets start it off with the RUIN!\

The Ruin is made from cork floor tiles salvaged from when we ripped up the floor in there. other materials include sticks, bamboo scewers, brown packing paper, card (various types), thin plywood, filler, wire mesh and kitchen towel (more paper). not the best built ruin I must say but for a first go its alright. the figure for scale is actually from Emmett (Winttrix) who was selling his old models. I bought a few figures, a helicopter and some Bren Carriers, which i am sending to Michael. Some of the figures were already painted with a few patches where they had been damaged, so my job was to patch them up and get them ready to go again.

I found the cork quite a nice material to work with. easy to cut and stick together.

I also decided to add some details, on the roof are some sand bags with some nasty spikes. it looks simple because it is, card wrapped in kitchen towel and some sticks. ok the painting is bad but i forgot about my colour blindness and assumed it would all look good in th end. (ps lines on wall to the left are the glue for sticking the tiles to the floor)

perhaps the best angle for viewing the ruin, the curtains are made from packing paper. nice and easy.

the ladder is very large compared to a figure but is more for show than to be 100% accurate.... its so you know there is a ladder (you can sometimes get a fig to stand on it also)

 Now lets take a closer look at our friend here! he was the least damaged of the figures and the most painted... so a simple bit of nasty Tamiya primer and some paint to cover the metal that showed through and he was ready againt to see action! since I took these photo's (a while ago now) I have fixed up a buddy for this guy and almost completed some of my own figures from the Elhiems I got sent. All very nice figures I must say.

Special forces, Merc, rebel, PMC who knows this man could be any of these.

Remember most of this is Emmett's work, I just patched him up.

well there you have it. Emmett stopped posting pictures on his blogs last year so I am happy that I can show off just one more bit of his excellent work

 Now onto the overview! these pictures are even older but still well worth a look! This is all of Modern Oronegro minus the city boards and the terrible little river boat I did ages ago... if you don't remember its the green one which I photographed with a rubber duck.

it is big! very big! and for some reason its not enough... perhaps its good I am going to university next year. that will limit how much I can do.

now to the rebel side. the Spetnaz and russian T-90A standing out against the rest of the rebel forces

rebel armour advances. this battle would A) not occur at any time except when everyone agreed to it and B) be a nightmare to be part of.

Now for some action and detail shots! first up we have some pictures of the aircraft of oronegro. then some shots of the chaos on the ground.

view along the rebel advance! I seem to have reversed the laws of stereotypical cold war style warfare by making the Russian's the blue team... well I guess that means I have to paint the US soldiers Red.

fighting back the UN Germans and other troops hold the left wing of the national army, in the distance the black angels unload and prepare for what must be the most chaotic fight in Oronegrean history.

and the view from the National right. they have the better position and armour but still this is not going to be an easy fight

a little supply house

Now after all those ships I need to take a small break to made something a bit more stable... its nice to feel the earth beneath your feet after you get off a ship. so I made something that makes you feel even better to be on that land a road side supply house... now you can have some food while you travel at leisure through the lands of Oronegro or elsewhere. Now more can be found out about these places On the Oronegro blog but here I'll just go through and tell you about the model. I must say though that its a bit small to make up for all those ships and I am going to make more, so still no "land ho" for me yet

it may not look like much but if your food ran out the other day this little place might be the nicest thing you see all day

the stone here is woodland scenic's talus, with lots of PVA and then painted to look like a stone path,

the ladder is part of one of the siege ladders in the Zvezda medieval siege engines part2 set

if you could not see in the roof is removable... revealing a cramped but decent interior.

there's cupboards and a table top in one corner and a big crate in the other these contain some of the supplies

a look from the back with the 3 removable chests... the 2 big ones are removable.

it was a small fun build and if you cannot tell the parents are painting which means there is plenty of paint to white-wash the building and a dust-mat to put it on. Anyway school is creeping up fast on me and tomorrow I have a meeting with the other prefects... still got plenty to do but anyway as always, Have a nice day, night or other time depending on where you are in the world!

the final piece of the puzzle, slums

well I got these done basically yesterday, they may not look like much but hey, slums don't look impressive. I made them out of card, wood, foam core and resin corro sheeting. but with these completed I can tell you all that I am going to take a nap. constructing these boards has been a rewarding and fun experience. but one that did not really please my parents, they did not like the way I took up the whole table to make one. so maybe it is for the best that I return now to painting a few glorious fig. but for any of you who prefer my boards, I have plenty more ideas and materials where those I have used came from and I am not about to leave the streets of La Ley with such a small representation, it is a big city and these are just the outskirts.

on the end of the board we find the slum. put up after the former building was blown up

a small drain runs past, the smell is unbarable

from above it is clear these huts are poorly built

a quick look inside reveals the squalor

2 soldiers patrol these empty huts

one finds an abandond room, he is glad he is wearing a gas mask, the smell is  worse than a dead rotting cow

the other reamains by the other rooms, he does not want to enter he can tell there is nothing alive in there already

the 2 men leave and explore more of the slum, that putride drain is nasty, but at least there is a fire to keep them warm

there you go. my final building for the group build. do not expect me to be entering more any time soon.

church in a war zone

well I have finally got this little beauty done. took me a little over a fortnight and is also entered into the group build... remind me to enter it if I forget. it is across the road from the other building I showed last time and is meant to look like all the important and expensive things; stained glass windows priceless paintings, the priest have all been stored away for safe keeping in a little room. the church tower on the other hand is a nice tall one with great views and a low parapet, so if your a sniper or a small man trying to find a way to be taller than your neighbour this is a place for you. of coarse as my game is set in Latin America this is a catholic church, a big thanks to my father (former teacher of RE in the UK) for help with the layout.

crime in war, war in crime

this was my entry into the group build over at the guild. it is part of my grand project but it is a building so it classified as an entry.

a town street ruined my war, the sorrows of many can be seen in the rubble of old shops and factories

more ruins behind the road, look at the walls broken, the ladder winding its way up to the roof

I call this my money shot

out of focus but cool terrain for war eh?

there are the removable floors in order of height, top on the left, bottom on the right.

behind these ruins there is another story to tell

ah ha just what I was looking for a printing machine churning out cash

now we go down the stairs to the ground floor

in th other half of the building the ruins of war are obvious

and on this side a bathroom
